Nikon Team Realtree Laser440 Rangefinder
As a bowhunter, knowing the distance to the target is critical. Laser rangefinders have taken the guess work out of knowing the exact distance. In years past, I used a range finder that worked well out to 800 yards. However, it was a bit bulky, required two hands to operate, and 800 yards is a bit overkill for a bowhunter. So, this summer I went on a search for a rangefinder that was compact, accurate and light weight. I was looking for a rangefinder that would meet some specifications. It had to be usable with one hand, compact, light weight and accurate at all distances since I'd be using it for archery and rifle season. My research lead me to a compact rangefinder from Nikon, the Team Realtree Laser440 (the ProStaff 
Laser440 is the non-camo version).
With 8 power magnification, the Laser440 allows you can get up close and personal with whatever game you're after. Although I'd never be without binoculars, you can certainly use the Laser440 to range and view your animal those last few moments before the shot. Their compact size (3.7" long, 2.8" wide) and light weight (7 oz.) allowed them the live around my neck during my entire Colorado archery season. The Laser440 also comes with a belt case as well. When you're chasing elk in the dark timber, clear vision, color, contrast and maximum brightness are major considerations in my book. Nikon's multicoated optics and focusing diopter address all of these. All optical glass reflects and absorbs light (up to 50% loss without multicoated lens). The higher the lens quality the less light loss there is. Optics with expertly applied multi coatings can further reduce the light absorption to only 5%.
With a ranging distance of 11-440 yards (1/2 yard increments up too 100 yards) and being water resistant, the Nikon Team Realtree Laser440 has found a home next to my bow and rifle. Since I'll be hunting with this range finder, I also use it to sight in my bow and rifles. Don't forget this rangefinder next time you go into the woods or to the range.
